For over 50 years, The Guardian has been a trusted source of transparent and investigative student journalism, serving both the UC San Diego and broader San Diego communities. Created and driven by students, our team of over 150 passionate journalists is dedicated to delivering independent reporting and diverse perspectives while adapting to the ever-evolving communications landscape.
As a student-led, independent news organization, we face significant challenges in maintaining our print publication. Limited resources have forced us to reduce our printing schedule, and without additional support, we may no longer be able to print weekly.

Despite these hurdles, our team remains deeply committed to our mission. We operate without a faculty advisor or formal journalism program, but we’ve made incredible strides through teamwork, innovation and dedication. This year alone, we’ve nearly doubled our staff, implemented new processes to improve our reporting, and expanded our reach to cover a broader range of stories.
For our writers, photographers, artists and editors, seeing their work in print is one of the most rewarding experiences. There’s nothing quite like witnessing a fellow student engaged with a newspaper, flipping through the pages and connecting with the stories we’ve worked so hard to create. It’s a tangible reminder of the impact and importance of accessible, independent press in an increasingly digital age.
