Latinx Heritage Month

UC San Diego’s Latinx community is growing and we are making strides investing in the resources necessary for it to flourish. In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, we encourage you to support one of the key funds below that celebrate our Latinx/Chicanx community and moves us closer to our goal of becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Your gift builds a campus where inspiring UC San Diego students achieve their academic and professional dreams, while becoming changemakers in their field.

Latinx/Chicanx Academic Excellence Initiative

The Latinx/Chicanx Academic Excellence Initiative is designed to ensure that California’s fastest growing student population feels welcome, supported and able to thrive at UC San Diego. This means attracting and supporting a diverse faculty, staff and student community — making UC San Diego a place where generations rise. UC San Diego is actively transforming into a student-centered university for the success of current and future Latinx/Chicanx students, families and communities. The initiative will direct resources toward programs and activities that emphasize and elevate the Latinx experience for the whole campus.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship supports undergraduate students of Hispanic heritage and/or graduates of The Preuss School of any ethnicity who choose to attend UC San Diego. As part of the Latinx/Chicanx Academic Excellence Initiative, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund increases access to higher education and ensures the success of current and future Latinx/Chicanx students, families and communities by providing vital financial support as well as academic resources through the Chancellor’s Associates Scholars Program. We honor the uniqueness of our UC San Diego students: their culture, identity, family, history and life experiences as they ascend toward their dreams and achieve success for themselves and their families. Help make UC San Diego a place where generations rise by donating to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund today.

Raza Resource Centro

The Raza Resource Centro (RRC) is one of the campus community centers under the Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at UC San Diego. The Centro came out of a history of struggle, and student and community movements that called for resources and support for UC San Diego Chicanx/Latinx. As a campus community center with administrative staff and student interns, the Centro offers activities, events and resources to connect students, staff, faculty and alumni. The Centro is open to everyone, and strives to emphasize and foster the access, retention and graduation of Latinx/Chicanx students as well as create strong connections with our surrounding community.

ENLACE Program

The ENLACE bi-national summer research program at UC San Diego’s CaliBaja Center for Resilient Materials and Systems aims to encourage the participation of high school students, college students, researchers and teachers, in research in the sciences and engineering, while promoting cross-border friendships in the Baja California/San Diego region. The program provides an opportunity for participants from both sides of the border to explore a variety of interests through work on varied projects, while challenging the person to always consider science in the context of societal needs. This year’s research projects cover topics like wearable sensors for health care monitoring and Python robotics.
