San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon
This year, UC San Diego School of Medicine students will be running in the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon to support the La Jolla Family House, which provides housing and support to families with loved ones seeking long-term or critical care treatment at Jacobs Medical Center, Moores Cancer Center and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center at UC San Diego Health.
The La Jolla Family House is immersed in the day-to-day lives of many medical students who live in the nearby Graduate and Family Housing during their first two years of training and education. It is a rare opportunity to have medical students be immediately surrounded by the families of patients in the hospital system in which they will be training. As a result, this fundraiser aims to show support to families at the La Jolla Family House and bolster connections between the medical community and those it cares for.
The La Jolla Family House opened its facilities to health care workers on the frontlines of the initial surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing workers to safely quarantine from their families and continue to provide quality care to patients. We are honored to amplify the mission of the La Jolla Family House, which is rooted in providing a nurturing space to those who need it most.
Our goal is to give back to our ultimate teachers: our patients and their families.
