Summer Bridge Program
Description
Help Triton freshman get a jump-start on college.
Summer Bridge Program
Summer Bridge has contributed to the retention, achievement, learning and development of thousands of entering UC San Diego freshmen. When the program started in 1978, only 28 students attended the one-week transition program. This past summer, the program served 433 incoming freshmen in an 8-week virtual program that offered students the opportunity to enroll in math and a course that fulfills the equity, diversity, and inclusion requirement at no cost. Summer Bridge is just one of the many OASIS programs that help build community and foster the unique strengths and assets of our students. Our overall goal is to have a positive effect on participants’ academic and social achievement and development from day one to graduation, and throughout their lives. So many of our program's alumni have gone on to various leadership positions, locally and nationally, using their education to improve our community and world. Our participants, like Noah Palafox ’22, find the experience invaluable. "Going into Summer Bridge, I had no idea what to expect. I was nervous because starting college seemed really hard and alien to me, but Summer Bridge alleviated most of my anxieties and actually served as a jump-start to my university experience. The program taught me that first-generation college students, like myself, could make it and excel at a top-notch university like UC San Diego. It gave me priceless knowledge on matters such as navigating academics and the school, social justice and time management. Summer Bridge, most of all, gave me a network of individuals who inspire me to do better, and I can honestly say are some of my favorite people on campus. OASIS is a warm community of students aspiring to better themselves, and I am proud to be a part of it,” said Noah. Please consider making a gift to allow incoming Tritons to continue to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience at Summer Bridge.
