OPENING DOORS FOR OUR SCHOLARS

Since its inception 40 years ago, the UC San Diego Black Alumni Scholarship Fund (BASF) has provided more than $1 million in support to over 400 scholars studying engineering, mathematics, and science or arts, humanities, and social sciences. In addition to much needed funds, our BASF Scholars are matched with alumni mentors and provided with experiential learning opportunities, setting them up for future academic and professional success.

In support of these efforts, the San Diego Foundation has agreed to match all donations to the BASF endowment at the San Diego Foundation, up to a total of $500,000. While your donation goes to support scholarships in perpetuity, the matching funds will be available immediately for scholarships — doubling the impact of your gift. Additionally, the first $20,000 in donations will also be matched by members of the BASF board — tripling the impact during this critical first phase.

We invite you to join late Dr. Lennon Goins ’73, founder of the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund (BASF), and Manuelita Brown ’76 MS, chair of BASF for 24 years, in their commitment to cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment where students can thrive. Your gift to the BASF will continue to expand UC San Diego’s capacity to welcome more high-achieving Black students into our Triton community. THANK YOU for your support!

Sincerely,

Ed Spriggs ’70
