Shape Lives at UC San Diego
Your gift to the UCSD Scholarship for Hope Scholars empowers former foster youth to achieve their dream of a college degree. Hope Scholars receive assistance with priority enrollment, student employment, life-skills counseling, career planning, and more. These opportunities shape lives and open doors for students to begin building a future of possibilities.
Jonathan Tran ’17, MS ’18 transferred to UC San Diego from community college in 2014 and received a scholarship. As he worked toward his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering he was inspired that donors valued education enough to invest in him and other foster youth. He is now on campus working on a doctorate in the same field.
As a former foster youth, Jonathan faced significant financial challenges. He carried this burden alone as he struggled to pay for his college education. The camaraderie and financial support provided by the Hope Scholars program helped alleviate some of his stress.
“Every foster youth who manages to make their way into higher education needs all the help they can get and a Hope Scholarship can be their first step to a better life.” Jonathan said. Please make your gift today and help students like Jonathan become who they were meant to be.
