UCSD Dragon Boat Races at Nevada Dragon Boat Festival
Pride. Tradition. Passion.
These are the core values held by the UCSD Dragon Boat Team, a collegiate sports club under UC San Diego Recreation. Since 2003, we have strived to promote these values while competing against teams from all around the world in the ancient sport of dragon boat racing.
Originating over 2500 years ago, dragon boat is deeply rooted in Chinese tradition and culture. Modern dragon boats typically consist of 10 rows with 2 paddlers each along with a drummer at the head of the boat and a steersman at the rear. This team sport, relying on unity, power and endurance, has been rapidly growing worldwide.
Our team also continues to grow and thrive, now consisting of over 50 paddlers or two full competing race crews striving to do our best at international Dragon Boat Festivals. As our team increases in both numbers and diversity, we aspire to maintain an environment that fosters a deep sense of community where together we can train to pursue our passion of dragon boat.
With that said, for the first time ever, our team will be representing UCSD at the Nevada Dragon Boat Festival in Las Vegas!
While each member pays yearly dues and race fees which we budget for each race, the cost of registration, food, transportation, and lodging adds up quickly. In order for us to make this trip more affordable for our paddlers, we’re reaching out to friends and family and supporters of the team to help out anyway they can!
The $2500 we’re hoping to raise will go towards transportation and lodging costs for this event. Whatever is remaining we’ll use to supply our paddlers with food and drinks to fuel us throughout the race.
Your support means a great deal to us!
