Sun God Festival has been a pillar of UC San Diego campus life for more than 30 years. At the heart of this tradition is a history of bringing major artists to our campus for an exceptional celebration enjoyed by the majority of our student community.
Due to rising costs associated with the festival, the scale and quality of this tradition cannot be maintained or enhanced without additional funding. We know that as an alum, you cherish the Sun God Festival experience you had during your time at UC San Diego.
That’s why we’re asking that you make a gift in support of the festival. Give now and your support will have double the impact: alum Steve Evans, '93, will match every dollar you give, up to $5,000.
Here's what Steve had to say about the festival:
Sun God means many things to many people. To some, it is a day to enjoy great music and to take pride in the fact that something so amazing happens on their own campus. To others, it is a day of hard work. To me, Sun God represents an opportunity; it is an opportunity for students to create something special, fun and educational. It is an opportunity for students to celebrate responsibly. It is an opportunity for UC San Diego to show other campuses that it is possible for students to curate a world-class event and to do so safely and responsibly.
Change is inevitable and leaves us with two choices: Evolve and use change to make Sun God stronger, or run from change and let Sun God die. In the last 25 years, I have been a part of countless Sun God changes, many of which were criticized as “the end of Sun God,” but all of which ended up pushing the festival to new heights. We have that chance again now. Sun God is more than a festival; it is a time for UC San Diego to come together and celebrate just how special it is. Sun God launches careers, friendships and lasting memories. For me, it launched all three. –Steve Evans, ’93
Please help us maintain Sun God’s exceptional quality, scale and safety for current and future Tritons by making a gift today.
