At SD Hacks 2016, a thousand engineers from UC San Diego and other great schools around the nation will gather on our campus to see what they can build in 36 hours. For one weekend, UC San Diego will be the hackathon capital of the world. For more information about hackathons, check out this article about last year’s event.
This year, we plan to improve the event by focusing on providing great learning experiences and promoting diversity and inclusion. We also aim to equip our participants with more resources, such as a makerspace for students where they can tinker and learn about hardware. Additional spaces will include high performance machinery for virtual reality and game developers. These resources foster unique projects and give students the opportunity to build with pioneering technologies. However, all these great things require extra support.
This event will benefit students by allowing them to work on projects they’re passionate about and collaborate with other students from around the nation who are also interested in innovation and creativity. In our overwhelmingly positive (91% satisfaction) participant surveys, the majority of respondents noted that their favorite aspect of the event was the community.
By donating to SD Hacks 2016, you are enabling students to have this awesome experience and are increasing the prestige of UC San Diego in the hacker scene. Our hackathon will continue to put the spotlight on UC San Diego as a place where innovation happens.
We are setting the campaign goal at $10,000 to get started, but the more community support we receive, the more support we can channel directly to our students. We will use the money for more hardware and software resources at SD Hacks 2016 and potentially even at smaller hack events throughout the coming academic year.
Please donate and share our campaign with your friends, family, and colleagues. Thank you so much for your support!
