Triton Track & Field Equipment Campaign

UC San Diego Track and Field History

Since the move Division II in 2001, UC San Diego Track and Field has claimed six CCAA conference team titles between the men and the women. Nearly 100 Tritons have earned NCAA All-America honors along with NCAA trophies for third and fourth place finishes at Nationals. One special addition to our Triton successes include 2009 alumna Sonali Merrill, who became our first Olympian for UC San Diego when she competed in the 2012 London Olympics representing Sri Lanka. UC San Diego Track and Field has had much success, and as we look forward to the future, we ask that you continue to be a part of our winning culture.

Triton Stadium Now Among the Top Track and Field Facilities in the Nation

This past summer we were lucky to resurface Triton Stadium with the Beynon BS3000 – a surface that is considered by many to be one of the top performing track surfaces in the world. It has been installed in several top facilities in the nation, including the Olympic Trials facility at the University of Oregon. As part of the stadium rejuvenation, take-off boards were added to the backstretch for the recently constructed long jump and triple jump pit. These most current upgrades follow recent improvements that included construction of the Leon T. Roach Memorial Pole Vault Terraces as well as the state-of-the-art videoboard in honor of Leon T. Roach and 1991 alumna Shannon Quigley.

The Next Step to Enhance Triton Track and Field

We are beginning a fundraising drive to supply the university and team with a television grade audio-visual control system for the videoboard. This will allow an unmatched spectator experience for home meets and allow us to produce television grade webcasts of meets. The Triton Invitational has emerged as one of top meets in the United States and is well-known to international competitors. This invitational has extended the reach and visibility of UC San Diego and Triton Track and Field to unprecedented levels. We hope you can support our modest campaign to raise $20,000 for these items that will further enhance the stature of our program.
