One percent of the population is born with congenital heart disease. Breakthroughs in pediatric surgery at the turn of the century have allowed the vast majority to lead longer, healthier lives, with many choosing to have biological children of their own — – a goal that was once considered out of reach.
Based within a top-tier academic health system and boasting particular expertise in the latest Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) treatments, the Cardiovascular Institute is uniquely poised to drive innovation in this field and prepare a new cadre of expertly trained physicians to serve patients across Southern California and the nation.

$50 Expand Our Services
- Every dollar counts. Help us extend our reach and impact to more individuals in need. Thanks to advances in surgical techniques, most children born with heart defects survive into adulthood. An estimated 1.6 million adults in the U.S. live with congenital heart disease.
$250 Patient Support Group
- Patient education and support systems are critical components of ACHD care that can positively impact health outcomes and well-being. Our faculty and staff volunteer their time to lead a well-received “congenital heart disease conversations” initiative, but the demand for more robust offerings is apparent. Your support will help these groups provide a lifeline for individuals to connect, share experiences and build a community of support.
$500 Continuing Education for Physicians
- Continuing education for physicians is critical to turning the latest best practices into the new standards of care for ACHD. With funding in place, we can ensure long-term support for expert training in ACHD care, creating a ripple effect that could improve the lives of countless patients across our region.
$1,000 Strengthen Our CardioPregnancy Program
- Birthing individuals with ACHD can have healthy pregnancies, though they may have been told otherwise since childhood. Our physicians regularly guide patients with ACHD through healthy pregnancies and births, thanks to a concerted, collaborative effort between cardiology and obstetrics. Your significant donation supports crucial research that supports specialized maternal care, making pregnancy a safer and more joyous experience.
$5,000 Pursue Novel Clinical Research
- Help us address the unique challenges faced by a new cohort of adult survivors of congenital heart disease. Many patients who had heart surgery in childhood may have been told their hearts were "fixed." However, all of these patients will need continued follow-up care from experts throughout their adulthood. Help us identify, study and develop novel treatment plans for this new population.
